A Comparative Study of Urban Spatial Characteristics of the Capitals of Tang and Song Dynasties Based on Space Syntax

Space syntax has been widely used in studies with historical components to developing a common analytical language for the comparative study of urban morphology across time and space by visual diagrams. This paper uses analyse inner outer city parts daily life residents capital cities two dynasties, Tang Song, reveal impact changes planning on overall spatial structure city, commercial space, role squares dynasties under centralised rule. Based quantitative analysis, results show significant differences between Song all three aspects comparison. The dynasties’ result from interaction materiality ancient Chinese form function analysis is useful interpreting their relevance.
